Updates From Chicago City Council & Next Steps
The accessory dwelling unit (ADU) as well as parking reform ordinances passed out of the zoning committee today! Thank you so much to the volunteers that came out to give comment in person this morning.
Now, both ordinances need to get through the full city council tomorrow to make it across the finish line. If your alder voted "yes" for ADUs, please call them and thank them for voting yes. If they voted "no", call them and ask them to reconsider when they vote again tomorrow.
Don’t see your alder on the list below? That means they aren’t on the zoning committee, but will still vote tomorrow in the full council. Call them and encourage them to vote yes for the ADU and parking reform ordinances.

Here are some suggested scripts:
Alder Voted Yes
“Hi, my name is X and I’m calling to thank Alderperson for voting to expand ADU’s citywide. This issue is important to me because of (one reason, housing affordability, the environment, family needs, etc.). I hope that both the ADU and parking reform ordinances will pass full council tomorrow.”
Alder Voted No
“Hi, my name is X and I’m calling to express my disappointment that Alderperson voted against expanding ADU’s citywide. This issue is important to me because of (one reason, housing affordability, the environment, family needs, etc.). I strongly urge Alderperson to reconsider and to please vote for the ADU ordinance as well as parking reform in the full council tomorrow.”
Alder Not on Zoning Committee (Not on List Above)
“Hi, my name is X and I’m calling to urge Alderperson to vote for common-sense parking reform and to expand ADU’s citywide in the full council tomorrow. These issues are important to me because of (one reason, housing affordability, the environment, family needs, etc.). I hope that both the ADU and parking reform ordinances will pass full council tomorrow.”
Implementing both of these ordinances would be a significant boost to the housing supply. They would also increase the ability to build faster and cheaply near transit.
Lets push as hard as we can!
